BLUE CANYON, Placer County — A planned widening of Interstate 80 in the Placer County foothills requires replacing two existing bridge structures, including the Blue Canyon undercrossing.

Caltrans identifies the second structure as the West Paoli Lane/Weimar overcrossing. Both replacements are intended to accommodate the wider roadway planned for a new eastbound truck-climbing lane. This is part of the broader Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project, not a separate highway bypass.

Bridge replacement can affect local connections even when Interstate 80 remains open to through traffic. Construction-stage access arrangements and ramp restrictions may vary, and a bridge listed for replacement should not be assumed closed without a current Caltrans notice.

What travelers and residents should know

Residents and delivery drivers relying on smaller roads should check county road advisories and the latest Caltrans project notices before leaving. Contact information for the project manager is published on the state agency’s page.
